These are the proceedings of a symposium held in May 2009 in the framework of the Center’s Süleyman Demirel Program for Contemporary Turkish Studies. The symposium was the fifth to be dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and colleague, Professor Aryeh Shmuelevitz, who passed away in January 2005.
