"Morocco’s socioeconomic realities are common knowledge: a continuing low score on the Human Development Index owing to high levels of income inequality, poverty, and illiteracy, particularly among rural women, accompanied by an inadequate education system and widespread corruption. And as Adam Yousef’s detailed study demonstrates, decades of policies designed to promote economic growth in ways that would address Morocco’s underlying social and economic difficulties have not produced the desired results."
