Harel Chorev
Harel Chorev-Halewa, PhD (Tel Aviv University, 2011), is the head of the Doron Halpern Middle East Network Analysis Desk at the MDC. Chorev is a historian focusing on informal networks in the Middle East and their analysis with tools combining empirical historical study and Network Theory.
He is particularly interested in the role of informal networks in relations between social structures and political systems, as well as their part in social-legal, social-economic and additional spheres of interaction. In the past decade of academic work, Chorev has incorporated this into his study of Palestinian sociopolitical history from the 19th century to the present. Recently, he has begun applying additional tools of historical research from the field of Digital Humanities.
Dr. Chorev has a secondary interest in the geopolitics of the contemporary Middle East and in the impact of new media on the region, as well as in the history of Lebanon’s Shi'a.
